Equipment, Heating & Automation in Dallas

Equipment is where a pool either costs you $40 a month or $140 a month, and in Dallas it is also the part that either survives the next ice storm or does not. Most quotes hide it inside an allowance. Ours lists every unit by make and model.

What we specify on a Dallas pool

ItemWhy
Variable-speed pumpRequired by federal efficiency rules on new installs and cuts pump electricity by 60 to 80 percent versus single-speed. Runs quietly at low speed all day.
Cartridge filterNo backwashing, which means no wasted water during a drought-restriction summer. Oversized so you clean it two or three times a year.
Salt chlorine generatorSteady sanitizer without hauling chlorine. Softer water. Sized above the pool volume so it keeps up in August.
Heater or heat pumpGas for spas and quick heat, heat pump for economy and pool cooling.
Automation with freeze protectionPump schedules, lights, heater and features from your phone. When the air drops toward freezing the pump runs and the lines keep moving, which is what saved pools in the February 2021 storm.
In-floor or robotic cleaningLive oak leaves in spring and cottonwood in summer are a Dallas fact of life. We size the cleaning system to it.

Freeze-proofing the pad

Every equipment pad we build gets freeze protection on the automation, a manual winterizing drain on the pump and filter, and a heater with its own freeze guard. If your current pad has none of that, we can add it to an existing system in a day.

Hard water, handled

North Texas water runs moderately hard, and a pool that evaporates through a Texas summer concentrates it. We set the salt system, the finish and the start-up chemistry so calcium stays in solution instead of on your tile.

How it works

  1. Estimate. We walk the yard, check access, grade and setbacks, and talk through what you want. Free, and usually under an hour.
  2. 3D design. You see the pool, deck, spa and features together in 3D before anything is dug. Shape, finish, lighting, all of it.
  3. Fixed quote. A line-item quote. Excavation, shell, plumbing, equipment, finish, coping, deck and barrier each priced on their own line.
  4. Build. An insured North Texas pool builder takes it from here, pulls the permit with your city, and builds to the approved design.
  5. Walkthrough. Once it passes final inspection you walk the finished pool with your builder, get the warranties, and learn how to run the equipment.

Also worth a look

  • Pool Construction – New in-ground pools designed in 3D, permitted through your city, and built to a fixed line-item price.
  • Gunite & Shotcrete Pools – Custom shapes, tanning ledges, Baja shelves and spas. Steel-reinforced shells engineered for North Texas clay.
  • Pool Remodeling & Resurfacing – Pebble resurfacing, new waterline tile and coping, equipment upgrades, and full makeovers of tired 1990s pools.

FAQ

Equipment, Heating & Automation: common questions

Should I get a heat pump or a gas heater?

If you are heating a spa a few nights a week, gas. If you want to stretch the pool season into October and April, a heat pump. Many Dallas pools get both: gas for the spa, heat pump for the pool.

Can you upgrade just my equipment?

Yes. A variable-speed pump, new filter, salt cell and automation can be swapped onto an existing pad in a day or two, with the electrical done by a licensed electrician and permitted where your city requires it.

What about the next ice storm?

Freeze protection on the automation, insulated exposed plumbing, and a drain valve on the pad. We walk you through what to do when the forecast calls for single digits.
